In all three of its modern generations, the Škoda Superb is manufactured in East Bohemian Kvasiny. In the near future, however, it should be different – production should move to Devínská Nová Ves near Bratislava. This is stated by the Slovak Denník N with reference to an interview given by the head of the Herbert Diess concern to the German magazine Automobilwoche.

When asked by Novinek.cz whether this will really be the case, the carmaker Škoda replied that it would not comment on the future production program.

The relocation of production has been speculated for a long time, for example by the Škoda Auto unions, whose foreman Jaroslav Povšík in the past spoke of the “campaign against Škoda” by the Volkswagen Group. However, the relocation plans also apply to the Volkswagen Passat, which is still manufactured in Germany and is the same flagship for Volkswagen as the superb for Škoda.

The move is to take place as part of the modernization and expansion of the Slovak Volkswagen plant. The one in Devínská Nová Ves has stood since the 1970s; was established as BAZ (Bratislava Automobile Works) and the Volkswagen Group joined it in 1991.

Investments in the factory can reach up to billions of euros (26.6 billion crowns) and it has been talked about for some time; the Slovak government negotiated it with Volkswagen in the summer, but it was about half the amount.
