On Saturday, the occupancy rate of the hospital in crisis was 123%. In addition, there would be 38 patients for 31 stretchers available, in addition to an apparent staffing problem.

Given the state of the health institution, the union asked citizens to avoid the place for the weekend.

The seven nurses, who should be 12 to manage the emergencies of the establishment, deplored the situation, and their union too.

“We are not happy to be here today, but we had no choice but to denounce to inform the public that it is dangerous this weekend, as much for the safety of our members as for the safety of people. “, said Johanne Riendeau, president of the Union of health care professionals of the West Island of Montreal on the airwaves of LCN.

Staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital are forced to work more than 20 consecutive hours, sometimes up to 30.

“It’s getting worse and worse,” said M.me Riendeau.

The union criticizes the employer party for not having planned a plan for the summer season or a recruitment plan.

Anne Skaeafm has decided to take a break from her retirement to come and lend a hand at the weekend in the emergency room of the hospital.

“As soon as I arrived at work, I understood why they needed me. Today, we are very busy and we don’t have enough nurses. I even asked myself the question: how would they have done without additional help? explained the retired nurse for a year and a half.

Moreover, she has a thought for her colleagues who have to work in these conditions every day.

“I feel sad for those who work full time, especially because they are very tired. They have families, they have life, then they are tired,” she said.
