After Tuesday’s meeting of the League Committee, the League Football Association (LFA), which conducts professional competitions in the Czech Republic, informed about it.
“All members of the League Committee clearly prefer the sporting end of professional competitions and want to exhaust all possibilities to complete the competition year on the field,” the LFA said in a press release.
“Also in view of this, the committee decided to adjust the schedule so that the Karviná club has sufficient time for training preparation after the end of the established quarantine.”
The key data for the fate of the currently postponed rescue team matches are as follows:
- July 16 test results in Karviná.
- On July 17, a meeting of the League Board, which would determine what to do next if the controls turned out badly.
- July 23 matches of the penultimate round of the retention group (Opava – Sigma Olomouc, Příbram – Teplice, Zlín – Karviná).
- July 26 matches of the last round of the retention group (Karviná – Příbram, Sigma Olomouc – Zlín, Teplice – Opava)
- July 29, the first match of the playoff
- August 1, retaliatory matches of the playoff
The football season, including the playoffs played by the 14th and 15th teams of the first league against the second and third teams from the second, should not culminate until the beginning of August. The LFA has set the date of August 2 as the last possible one for the completion of the competitions on the recommendation of UEFA.
Completion of the complete year 2019/20 was endangered after positive tests appeared in Karviná at the beginning of July for three players and one member of the implementation team.
The regional hygienic station sent the entire team to the fortnightly quarantine, and the league management also informed about the postponement of the remaining two rounds of the superstructure group for rescue.
Due to the situation in Karviná, it would not have to be completed, which would mean that no one would relegate from the first league. The playoffs would be canceled and its winner would jump one floor higher from the second league, which is currently run by Pardubice. Therefore, 17 teams would most likely play the highest competition next season.
The LFA said that what is happening around the Karviná club does not affect the remaining program of the highest competition, ie the group for the title and the qualifying match for the European League between the fifth team of the elite group and the winner of the playoffs for Europe.
However, finishing the second league and rescue group may be enough to end the year. As the LFA adds: “In the event that it will not be possible to play a draw, two clubs will descend directly from the highest competition in accordance with the Schedule of competitions and will be replaced by the two best in the second league after 30 league rounds have been completed.”
The last two places in the first league are occupied by the fifteenth Opava with the last Příbram, the floor of which is the Brno Zbrojovka behind Pardubice.
