The fraudster managed to block the Instagram account of the head of this social network, Adam Mosseri, using a “fake” death message.
The scammer succeeded in blocking the personal Instagram account of the top manager of this social network, Adam Mosseri. The head of the social network was “buried” using the Account in memorable status function, with the help of which the moderator is notified that the page owner has died, writes Vice.
“I find it funny that Instagram allows this kind of thing to happen on its platform at all,” a scammer who claimed responsibility for blocking Mosseri’s account told reporters in an online chat.
The user showed screenshots of the correspondence with the administration of the social network, in which he informed them that Mosseri had allegedly died.
Instagram was asked to provide a death certificate, obituary or news link that would confirm this information. The fraudster sent a previously prepared article that he generated on a fake site.
The moderators found this article convincing, and they blocked their boss’s account. An inscription appeared on the Mosseri page that the user had passed away.
Access was restored only when the top manager himself could not enter his page.
