He has more than a decent piece of paper equipment, but the reality has obviously fallen short of expectations – at least according to their methodology.
Really take pictures worse than the Galaxy S20 Ultra?
We will not walk around a hot mess for long – Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra scored “only” 121 points in the test (128 for a photo, 98 for a video), which ranks him 17th in the rankings. Its predecessor Galaxy S20 Ultra at the same time, he gained five points more with the same methodology and currently ranks 10th. This review caused quite a stir on social networks, especially the owners of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, who would put their hand in the fire for the photographic skills of their phone.

Incorrectly set methodology
The problem is probably with the chosen testing methodology DxOMarkwhich put the Galaxy S21 Ultra at a disadvantage. For example, the phone received a relatively poor rating for zoom, while it is equipped with two “zoom” cameras with 3 × and 10 × optical zoom. And that is exactly the problem, because the editors DxOMark in her test she worked mainly with 2.5 × and 8 × zoom.

In the first case, the Galaxy S21 Ultra only made cutouts from the main sensor, in the second case, it used a cutout from 3 × zoom. The periscope module with a 10 × zoom did not get into the game at all in direct comparison with the competition. It is no wonder then that last year was better in this category Galaxy S20 Ultra, which has a 4x optical zoom.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra has according to DxOMark a very powerful and versatile camera that excels in many ways, but loses competition in others. Samsung manages to maintain a wide dynamic range and contrast, smooth zooming, stable white balance and precise focus in the video. On the other hand, the Galaxy S21 Ultra sensor suffers relatively from the noise that occurs in photos and video, sometimes there are unnatural-looking textures or artifacts in the image, and video stabilization is not very powerful. But it is very likely that these aspects of the Galaxy S21 Ultra will be corrected by software updates, after all, the acclaimed Galaxy S20 Ultra at first he suffered from very aggressive refocusing, for example.
