The Sales Time Act applies. Will the shops be open during the holidays?

Sunday and Monday are two public holidays. After the changes, people often wonder if they will shop in all stores on a given day. In addition, the situation was complicated by an emergency situation where an exception applied. They do not have to close stores during these two holidays, so it is up to them to decide whether to adjust their opening hours.

At a time when strict security measures were in place for the spread of coronavirus and a state of emergency was declared in the Czech Republic, no one had to look at whether to buy in larger stores due to public holidays.

However, the state of emergency is over and some sellers have to close it during selected public holidays. On Sunday, July 5, the Day of the Slavic Prophets Cyril and Methodius is published, and on Monday, July 6, the Czechs commemorate the burning of Master Jan Hus.

By law, stores with a sales area of more than 200 square meters may be open during the two holidays.

Larger stores will have to close again on Czech Statehood Day, which we commemorate on 28 September, due to the national holiday.
