The deputies of the Saeima unanimously supported the redistribution of funds.

The Saeima press service informed the portal “Delfi” that part of the funds saved in the parliamentary budget will be directed Children’s Clinical University Hospital introduction of new technologies and purchase of equipment. This will allow the hospital to introduce a new, state-of-the-art artificial circulatory system to perform surgeries for children of all ages with congenital heart disease.

The hospital will also be able to purchase ultrasonography equipment to provide high-precision examinations not only for children of all ages with suspected heart disease, but also for prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease in early pregnancy.

The redistributed funds will also allow the hospital to purchase a progress assessment analyzer, otorhinolaryngology or ear, throat and nose specialist workstations, and functional beds.

The unused budget funds of the Saeima will also be used for the provision of human papillomavirus vaccine for boys and for the provision of pertussis vaccine to pregnant women and adolescents next year.

The savings in the Saeima budget are due to the measures necessary to limit the spread of Covid-19, namely, the planned events, conferences and business trips have been canceled and postponed. The amount of compensation used by deputies for rent and transport expenses has also decreased this year. Funds earmarked for the repair and refurbishment of parliamentary premises have also not been used in full.
