Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito instructed all county councils in Pennsylvania to separate ballots received after Election Day. According to him, the calculation of the ballot papers will be carried out separately.
CNN reports the order is in line with guidelines that the Pennsylvania Secretary of State has issued separating disputed ballots pending a legal dispute.
This condition occurred after Trump’s campaign team sued that the vote count in Pennsylvania was stopped.
The reason the Trump camp made the request is because they claim monitors are prohibited from watching the vote count up close.
They also opposed a Pennsylvania High Court decision stating that ballot papers could only be counted within three days of the election.
Pennsylvania, with a quota of 20 electoral votes, is one of the key countries in winning the 2020 US Presidential Election.
Moreover, the gap between Biden and Trump, who had controlled Pennsylvania, narrowed further after the counting of ballots by post had begun.
Biden, who currently has 253 electoral votes, only needs at least 17 additional electoral votes to hit a winning mark of 270.
Not just for Biden. Pennsylvania is also Donald Trump’s hope of catching up with his opponent and adding to the electoral vote he currently has, 213.
Trump has taken the lead so far in Alaska and North Carolina. Meanwhile, Biden leads in Arizona, Georgia and Nevada.
