Russian men try to leave for Finland

The Finnish Foreign Ministry has reported a “splash” of Russian citizens wishing to obtain a visa for their country.

Military-age Russians began to leave the Russian Federation for Finland after the ruling Kremlin regime announced a partial mobilization to participate in the war in Ukraine. Speaking of which informed Jussi Tanner, head of the consular department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, in a comment to Helsingin Sanomat on Wednesday 21 September.

“There are questions that indicate that there is a desire to leave Russia, but the conditions for return are not met. So the decision to issue a visa is negative,” he said.

According to him, in the near future, when the partial mobilization in Russia is fully operational, the number of Russians wishing to leave will increase.

The Consular Department of the Finnish Foreign Ministry is analyzing the consequences of the announcement of a partial mobilization in the Russian Federation, Tanner pointed out.

Finland still continues to issue tourist visas to Russians. At the same time, some EU members stopped issuing humanitarian visas to Russian citizens for national security reasons. In particular, so did Latvia.

The Finnish opposition is now calling on the government to decide immediately on restrictions on Russian entry in light of recent events.

We recall that Finnish President Sauli Niiniste deems it necessary tighten visa conditions for citizens of the Russian Federation.

Note that the high-speed route St. Petersburg – Helsinki no longer valid. Allegro electric trains were scrapped by a Finnish company.
