President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov said that the organization received an official invitation to the 2022 Olympics in Beijing from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
“Sometimes I hear the opinion that an invitation to the Olympic Games is nothing more than a simple formality. I disagree, because I always regard this as the official position of the IOC, which confirms the status and powers of the National Olympic Committees.
OCD I was invited to the Games as a full participant, which means that our athletes will go to Beijing as a single team formed by the Russian Olympic Committee. The same can be said for Tokyo.
The invitation we received is a simple and understandable answer to the question of how our Olympians will go to the Games. We are not talking about any neutral status, which for some reason is still mentioned in separate comments. This must be clearly understood. Thank you for the invitation to the International Olympic Committee and are ready to adequately represent Russia in Beijing, ”Pozdnyakov said.
In December, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CASE) removed Russia from major international competitions for two years, Russian athletes will be able to compete at the Games as part of the ROC team, but without the national flag and anthem.
