American WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford poured chalk or some other substance into his gloves for a harder blow in a fight with Russian David Avanesyan. About this in an interview with the YouTube channel “Vse boxing” declared Russian coach Sergei Ivanov.

According to Ivanov, the first rounds were great for Avanesyan. “Then, at first glance, light blows flew, from which David began to get tired. I asked him: “What happened?” David said every jab was incredibly hard, outlier,” he said, noting that all of Crawford’s career knockouts have been after a big swing. And in Avanesyan’s case, the jabs have been without swing.

The trainer noted that after the fight, he and David looked at the photos and noticed that in the sixth round both gloves had been torn off by Crawford. “Also, in one glove, the left one, the seam on the side opened more than 10 cm, and in the other the thumb was completely opened. I mean, brand new gloves, for no apparent reason, both ripped. Such a tough fight [не было]The battle has just begun. This immediately suggests that there was something unclean there,” Ivanov emphasized.

Photos show both gloves are flat and both have huge tears, the coach added. “It looks like they just poured some kind of chalk-like powder into it, then they injected it with water and slammed it against the wall. It turns out like two brass knuckles. And with these brass knuckles them [Аванесяна] actually sucked. Otherwise, these gloves could not have torn,” Ivanov said.

Avanesyan lost to Crawford on the night of December 11th. Rival sent he knocked him out in the sixth round. Avanesyan was an interim and regular WBA world champion in 2015-2017, but lost the title in February 2017, losing to American Lamont Peterson on points. The 35-year-old Crawford is undefeated in the professional ring, having won all 39 of his fights.
