You probably haven’t missed the ‘girl dinner’ trend if you regularly use TikTok. To be honest, I could laugh about it, and it was also painfully recognizable in some TikToks (I can also be quite lazy when I have to eat but have nothing at home). You can’t call it cooking; whatever you have in the house is simply eaten. So that could be a can of corn, or a chicken breast for bread — or combine that. Girl dinner means taking as little effort as possible. You can imagine that dietitians are not necessarily keen on this trend… Although one has now emerged that worries them even more.

After ‘girl dinner’, ‘girl breakfast’ is now going viral and that is not exactly a healthy meal — in fact, experts warn of health risks.

Girl breakfast = no breakfast

What is a ‘girl breakfast’? Simply put, this is equivalent to ‘no breakfast’, so it is not surprising that experts are not keen on this. On TikTok, many girls film themselves getting up with a cigarette, a vape or a cup of coffee (or an oat cappu of course, if you live in Amsterdam..) and count that as breakfast. And that’s a growing problem: every year people seem to skip breakfast more and more often, and women do this even more than men.

And this is a big trend, especially among young people; 60.7 percent of girls reported eating breakfast, compared to 74.4 percent of boys. And it is very important at that age to eat breakfast, because otherwise you will start the day without energy when you have to go to school – and of course your concentration will suffer as a result. The province of Groningen has even allocated €100,000 to invest in projects to help children who are hungry at school. And of course a trend like this doesn’t exactly help.

But there is more bad news

Having breakfast with a coffee variant from Starbucks with a difficult name does not make it any better; all the added ingredients just make you feel like you’re actually snacking for breakfast instead of drinking coffee. Even if you are fuller than a black coffee, you have not made a healthy choice. So if you are doing this because you want to lose weight: don’t do it. If you skip breakfast, you are more likely to reach for fatty things during lunch, and if you have breakfast with a very sweet coffee from a chain like Starbucks, you will unnecessarily consume a lot of calories, and it also contains healthy nutrients. in.

It probably doesn’t even need to be mentioned, but considering this trend has already been viewed over 25 million times, I’ll do it anyway just to be on the safe side: smoking is not a complete breakfast and no, neither is vaping — and this can even hurt your stomach if you make it a habit.

Long story short: don’t buy into the ‘girl breakfast’ trend. For example, just make a smoothie bowl or acai bowl. Much healthier and it still looks beautiful.
