According to the decision, no events will take place in the Semperoper up to and including February 28, 2021. The new productions „White Rose ”,“ Pinocchio ”and“ Blues Brothers ”as well as the premieres of“ Guillaume Tell / Wilhelm Tell ”and“ Peer Gynt ”, which were canceled in spring 2020 due to the Corona, must be rescheduled for the coming seasons.

The cycles of “Der Ring des Nibelungen” planned for January and February 2021 under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann will also no longer be performed in 2021. Meanwhile, the management of the Semperoper is continuously working on enabling the premieres scheduled for March 2021 as well as the first performance of the new production of “Don Carlo” in the staging by Vera Nemirova, which was canceled last season, should the situation permit from March 2021.

For the ballet premiere of “Playlist”, a three-part ballet evening is planned as an alternative, since under the given circumstances it is not possible to rehearse on time. In general, the agreement on the cessation of gaming continues to allow rehearsals in compliance with the hygiene measures. More detailed information on the further replacement schedule by the end of the 2020/21 season can be expected at the end of January 2021, when the Conference of Ministers of Culture has discussed the current health situation again.

“As much as we all, who regard art and culture as a good of a democratically minded society that cannot be valued highly enough, painfully regret the continued renunciation of collective artistic creation and experience, the general health and protection of life now have top priority.

Therefore, in view of the urgent appeal from politicians to the responsibility of all of us, the Semperoper Dresden respects the joint decision to stop the pandemic by all means and to stop the cultural scene as quickly as possible without any health risk to our audience, the Semperoper staff and our artists to be able to resume.

Tickets already purchased for all canceled events will be refunded. On its homepage, the Semperoper Dresden continues to publish information on taking back tickets that have already been purchased and successively new information on the resumption of performance.
