“From what we saw yesterday and what we see today, I think we are very quickly returning to that ‘wonderful’ shack we lived in in the 1990s.” This was stated by lawyer and politician Prof. Daniel Valchev in the program “Crossroads” on the occasion of the football protest in Sofia on Thursday evening and the political precedents of recent days.
“The aggression in society, the disrespect for other people’s opinions, the desire to stay on some occasion regardless of what people think, some bloated budgets that our kids are going to pay – it all makes me feel really like the 90s, and that’s very bad”, added the dean of the Faculty of Law at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, quoted by Nova TV.
According to him, the first thing that cannot fail to make an impression is the “dramatic incompetence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs”. According to him, it is not about “guys who are on the street and have lost their temper”, but that they are not trained to act in a certain way. Their leaders cannot handle such a situation, Valchev is convinced.
The lawyer pointed out that the reaction of Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov was inadequate because of his reaction, according to which nothing happened. He pointed out that the system of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is extremely unreformed and needs deep changes.
“Another similarity with the 1990s is that too many random people are in key positions in the state and institutions, and the effect of this will not be good for us. At the same time, we don’t go because we don’t particularly go to elections,” said the former Minister of Education.
As for the draft budget for 2024, Daniel Valchev stated that he had not seen “a more left-wing, populist and stupid budget than that of Asen Vassilev”. According to him, the rulers will find a consensus on this and other controversial topics such as the derogation, because most of them do not have free will.
