The Reformers’ Alliance: Building a New Community and Politics for a Federative Europe

Into the void politico opened by one left in an identity crisis, in the strategic weakness of an artificial centre, in the unrealistic hegemonic ambition of the conservatives in government, the reformers’ alternative is growing in the country.

It is aimed at the people of abstentions, to the absent young people, to nostalgic elderly people, to resigned women and men. But more forcefully, it asks all those who want to rediscover the identity of free, responsible citizens who participate in the life of the country, to take the field to build together a new community, new institutions, a new politics.

Our founding values have roots in European civilization: equality and freedom, rights and duties, knowledge and nature. We want to start again from the communities and the territory, from its interests, from its identities. The new political system is rebuilt with the civics federative. Civics because in civic values the community finds the concrete meaning of governing democracy, defines its interests, and does not allow them to be conditioned by ideological choices and partisan convenience. Federative because multiple communities come together for common interests, functions, identities, needs, and through the reformed institutions express in the pact, government strategies and administrative functions that respond to the global and local needs of historically defined entities: municipalities, regions and the State. The political and institutional framework of reference requires a radical reorganization: the Europe of macro-regions and municipalities is the model to overcome the declining one of the Europe of national states, and realize the dream of the founding fathers of a united, free, democratic federal Europe.

The 2024 European elections will determine alliances and alignments that will govern the new Europe in formation. In this process the Federation of European Civics it wants to be among the autonomous and innovative actors and therefore will not face the electoral confrontation on the defensive, but playing on the attack: on the regeneration of the European project, on growth, on work, on the environment, on the transition, on solidarity. And above all on the political and strategic role of the EU in the complex economic and military scenario. Without stopping at statements and slogans, the electoral confrontation must translate into the concreteness of programs and projects capable of responding to the requests and ideal and material expectations of the active people, called to give substance and concreteness to strong reformism. The construction of that federative subject is therefore necessary, bearer of a new planning and political offer capable of overcoming worn-out identities and providing credible interlocutors for the renewed civil demand. The reformers’ alternative must give life to the Reformers’ Alliance.

The new political protagonist must have a federative origin because it is born and develops from below, directly in the territories and communities, where the request for a different and more concrete participation arises. Therefore, segments of parties or opinion movements that add up their weaknesses are not enough. Rather, integration and interweaving with the civic experiences that have matured in local experiences must be sought, federative citizenship. We want to reawaken realities that have remained passive for a long time, give new impetus to the desire to have real reformers as protagonists, get involved in a civil and political adventure whose roots in values are rooted in a land where the political and civil rights of the liberal democrats, equality and fraternity have grown of the socialists, the solidarity and humanity of the Catholics, the drive for survival of the environmentalists, the identity with the community and the territory of the federated civics. It is the common European history in which together we critically recognize ourselves and which we are committed to reforming.
