The Puerto Rico European Film Festival is back | Cinema

With the presentation of ten films and twice as many short films, from today until Sunday, the Puerto Rico European Film Festival (FCEPR) will take place in person, in the Fine Arts Popular Center.

The event, in its twelfth edition, will screen ten feature films from Germany, Spain, France and Italy, including the French film The Truth, starring Catherine Deneuve and Juliette Binoche. The program will feature three other French films including That Man from Rio, sterilized by Jean-Paul Belmondo.

The offer includes the film I Want to Talk about Duras, a drama premiered at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, which addresses the life of the author Marguerite Duras through the eyes of her ex-partner, the writer Yann Andréa.

“For all of us, after long months of confinement and restrictions, it is a source of joy to be able to gather together to celebrate this 12th edition of the FCEPR that, without a doubt, will make us travel. Through many European countries, we will discover great directors and performers of genres as diverse as thriller, comedy and drama, without overlooking the adventure and action masterfully represented by the recently deceased Jean-Paul Belmondo, ”commented the doctor. Carine Delplanque, executive director of the Alliance Française, a non-profit organization that organizes the festival.

The billboard also includes provocative and risky films such as A24’s new Icelandic thriller Lamb. While the Italian film Loro, by director Paolo Sorrentino (La Grande Bellezza and The Young Pope), will show us the life of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. In addition, the winner of the Goya Las Chicas prize will introduce us to life in the Spain of the 90s. While Germany will be represented by Berlin Alexanderplatz, an innovative adaptation of the German literary classic.

“Despite the vicissitudes and the great challenges that we experienced last year, we managed to persevere and overcome every obstacle to bring to the public the best of Puerto Rican and European cinema. Our commitment to the exchange of cultures and ideas, as well as the love for the seventh art, is what motivates us to continue with our great mission and entrustment ”, said Harold Leonard, director of the festival.

Due to the pandemic, the festival decided to launch a special edition of its long-awaited Cortadito short film competition, which will include local as well as European proposals.
