The public broadcaster filed a criminal complaint after the head of the World Cup delegation bought more than 700 match tickets on behalf of TVR and resold them

Public television has filed a criminal complaint after the head of the World Cup delegation bought more than 700 match tickets and resold them, reports Page the Media.

Initially, in the interview given exclusively to Paginademedia.ro, Cristi Oprean stated that she bought 64 tickets for the matches in the last stages (semi-finals and final), “for friends”, but FIFA confirmed that it was more than 700 tickets access to World Championship matches.

Public Television announced that it has filed a criminal complaint in the case of World Cup match tickets bought by the head of the TVR delegation in Qatar, Cristi Oprean, who resigned from the institution last week.

“As a result of consulting the official portal made available by FIFA for ordering tickets, TVR representatives found out that Mr. Oprean purchased on behalf of TVR, but without being mandated in this regard, not 64, but 712 access tickets to various matches of the 2022 Football WC”, announces Public Television.

Through his actions, Mr. Cristian Oprean overstepped his duties as coordinator of the TVR delegation at the CM in Qatar and abused his position to purchase and pass on to other people the tickets issued by FIFA representatives for SRTv.

TVR statement:

The representatives of the Romanian Television filed today, January 17, a criminal complaint regarding the way in which the tickets offered to public television, at special prices, were purchased and managed by the organizer of the Qatar 2022 Football WC, respectively FIFA.

Initially, TVR started a disciplinary investigation procedure following some e-mails in which a citizen complained that Mr. Cristian Oprean, the coordinator of the public television delegation at the World Championship in Qatar, sold him tickets for the France-Morocco game. The tickets were marked “ROTVR”, they were intended for Romanian Television, as the official broadcaster of the event for Romania, and the plaintiff could not enter the stadium due to the special conditions under which the tickets could be used. The citizen also complained that he paid a much higher amount than what was written on the tickets.

In an interview later given to Paginademedia.ro, Mr. Cristian Oprean stated that he bought a number of 64 tickets to the World Championship “for friends”, to “help”. At the same time, the coordinator of the TVR delegation at the CM in Qatar admitted that he did not notify the management of the institution because “there was no need” – in the context in which these facilities were offered to the Romanian Television Society by FIFA through the EBU (European Broadcasting Union).
