the public beta is available, here’s how to install it

The new version of the Apple Watch OS, Apple’s connected watch, will be available in September, alongside other novelties from the Cupertino company, such as iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and macOS Big Sur. But it is already possible to test what Apple has been concocting for a year, thanks to the public beta.

As a reminder, watchOS 7 adds new exercises (including dancing), sharing of dials, shortcuts (via the dedicated application on iPhone), translations, a hand washing count and a sleep mode, which records your activity in bed.

Here are the steps to install it on your watch:

  • Check your watch model. watchOS 7 is only available from Series 3, leaving Series 1 and Series 2 out
  • Install the iOS 14 beta on the iPhone linked to your Apple Watch (by following our instructions here)
  • Sure Apple’s beta program page, sign in or register, then click watchOS from Safari on iPhone
  • Then enroll your Apple Watch in the program
  • Install the watchOS 7 beta software profile from the iPhone paired with your Apple Watch
  • Next, go to Settings> General> Profile & Device Management, tap the profile, then tap Install

Please note that once the public beta of watchOS is installed, it is not possible to revert to a previous version. We will therefore have to remain in beta until the public release of watchOS 7, in September or October.
