Formalized a few days ago now, the Sony PS5 will be available in two models, with on the one hand a 100% digital offer with the “Digital” version, and on the other, a more classic PS5, equipped with a 4K Blu-Ray player. In terms of prices, it would seem that the future Sony console will follow the path of the PS4, not the PS3…
The PS5 from 399 €?
Indeed, some still remember, the PS3 was launched at the prohibitive price of 599 euros. Despite a huge wait on the part of the players, the commercial launch was a bitter failure, and Sony then had no other choice but to quickly lower the price of its machine, by reducing in passing certain functions (backward compatibility PS2, player cards…). On the side of the PS5, stratospheric tariff point on the horizon (a priori), since Sony would have opted for an entry ticket set at 399 euros.

€ 499 for PS5 with 4K Blu-Ray player
Obviously, this price would concern the PS5 “Digital Edition”. On the side of the PS5 equipped with an optical drive, the bill would climb to 499 euros, or 100 € more than the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X at their release. However, it should be noted that these prices are not official, and that they come from certain leaks from Amazon, as well as from certain « insiders ». It will therefore be necessary to wait for an official announcement from Sony to pre-order its PS5.
Nevertheless, the prices of 399 and 499 € seem the most plausible, in the sense that this would allow Sony to display its PS5 “From only 399 €”, while keeping an edition with optical reader, that is the one that will be favored by the players, at an acceptable price (499 € therefore). Indeed, beyond the fateful threshold of 500 €, Sony risks, as at the time of the PS3, to see the players turn their back on it, waiting for a price drop.
Regarding the availability of these new PlayStation 5, everything suggests that Sony should offer its consoles in stores from November 20. Recall that Microsoft must also offer its new Xbox Series X at the end of the year, with a launch that could occur a few days before / after that of the PS5. Prepare your money…
