The presidential term in Kazakhstan was extended and banned from re-election on September 16

The document was unanimously supported by all 50 senators and 99 Mazhilis deputies present at the meeting.

The law adopted by the Parliament will be sent to the President of Kazakhstan for signature.

Under the law, the presidential term will be extended from five to seven years, but the head of state will be barred from being re-elected for a second term.

In addition, the deputies voted for the return of the ancient name of the capital of Kazakhstan Nur-Sultan – Astana.

We recall that the president of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, said earlier ready to shorten the mandate and go to trigger the presidential elections. At the same time, changes will be made to the law with a prohibition on re-election.

Before Kasym-Jomart Tokaev saidthat Kazakhstan will not recognize the so-called “People’s Republics” of Donetsk and Lugansk.
