According to the brief, the complaint of misconduct was lodged by a member of the institution and as a consequence Dugan has been imposed with an “administrative exit” with “immediate” effect.

“The Board determined that this action was necessary to restore the confidence of the members of the Recording Academy, repair the morale of the Recording Academy employees and allow it to focus on its mission of serving all music creators” , the writing explained.

“The director of the board, Harvey Mason Jr., will act as president and interim executive director until the investigation is finished,” he added. “The Recording Academy board is committed to fostering a workplace, a music industry and a society. safe, diverse and inclusive. ”

The drastic decision has been taken just ten days before the Grammy Awards ceremony, held among the most important music awards and awarded by the institution presiding over Dugan.

The former director took office just five months ago, on August 1, and became the first woman in charge of the musical institution that, among other activities, awards the Grammy Awards and acts as a meeting point between the industry professionals

Dugan replaced the previous director, Neil Portnow, who starred in a controversy in 2018 when, in the face of criticism for the lack of women among the nominees, he hinted that they should “get noticed” in the industry.

The 62 edition of the Grammy will feature, for the second time in a row, singer Alicia Keys as master of ceremonies and the performance of the Spanish Rosalía, nominated for best new artist.

The list of Grammy nominees is led by Lizzo with eight nominations, followed by Billie Eilish and Lil Nas X, who have six mentions per head.
