The President of Brazil held talks with representatives of Ukraine and Russia

Brazilian President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva met with representatives of Russia and Ukraine on Saturday ahead of his inauguration and called for an end to the war.

Lula, who will be sworn in on Sunday, said he had met separately with Russian Federation Council chairwoman Valentina Matviyenko and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Sviridenko.

They arrived in Brazil to represent their countries at Lula’s inauguration. The politicians also met with the new foreign minister Mauro Vieira.

Lula told Matvienko that Brazil wants “peace and for the sides to find common ground to end the conflict” that began when Moscow invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.

According to him, Sviridenko brought him a report on the situation in Ukraine.
