On Friday, the premiere of Anton Chekhov’s play “Three Sisters” directed by Vladislav Nastavshev at the “Hanseatic Platform”. Rehearsals of the show started already during the quarantine, Zoom online, now allowing viewers to fully enjoy the sense of presence. “Three Sisters” will be performed ten times and involves actors from several professional theaters. A special feature – the show is bilingual. Chekhov’s texts are performed from the stage in both Latvian and Russian.

“Three Sisters” is one of Anton Chekhov’s most staged plays. Each new interpretation is intriguing. Vladislav Nastavshev himself is staging “Three Sisters” for the second time, this time using the aesthetics of black and white photography. A mustache gentleman looks at the audience and actors from the depth of the stage in the depths of the stage throughout the show.

“I would love to have a father. Its desire for a father is both sweet and… And it can be both as a father in a family and a father as God, but that desire for a father is very present, at least for me, ”Vladislav Nastavshev pointed out.

The actors speak almost in a whisper, playing all of Chekhov’s psychology into intonations. A bright ensemble of Latvian theater actors has gathered for the performance

The sophisticated work with form is accompanied by a filigree work with Chekhov’s text, without shortening the word in the play. Dialogues from the stage are heard in both Russian and Latvian, with subtitles in both languages.

“It simply came to our notice then.

Look at who the Latvians are and what the Russians are, and why it is still rubbing. ”

explained Nastavshev.

The costume style clearly marks the change of era. This is Chekhov forever, flirting with modern technology as well.

“Very sensitive, very subtle energy, with which its performance is wonderful and at the same time quite complicated,” says actress Dana Bjorka.

The audience dedicated the first “bravo” to the ensemble already during the rehearsal.
