On September 26, the premiere of Ferdinand von Schirach’s drama “Terror” directed by Valters Sīlis took place in the Actors’ Hall of the Latvian National Theater. As usual, the premiere was attended by both well-known people and simple theater art lovers.

Show-fictitious court hearing. There is a plane that has been hijacked by terrorists on its way to the Munich stadium. An aviation security expert makes the decision to shoot down the plane, but there are also 164 innocent citizens on board. 70,000 in the stadium. The court hearing is discussing whether this was the only right thing to do and who gives the right to decide that the lives of 164 people are worth less than 70,000.

Director Valters Sílis says about the choice of material: “The first time I read this play, I experienced a truly unprecedented feeling. In this work, I was not simply a reader who follows the characters of the play or gets an impression of what kind of theatrical experience the playwright has imagined. I had become the protagonist of the play, who is drawn into the decision of a very important issue. My first assumptions were overturned, but only my decision as a reader decided how this play would end. Plays like these are rare treasures that, when found, you want to share with as many people as possible.

This is how the work on the show began, in which the viewer will hopefully have a conversation with himself, although the role of the viewer requires careful watching and listening. What are the principles I follow? What should be the principles we agree on as a society? These were the questions we thought about during the creation of the show, and we hope that these questions will be interestingly asked during the show as well. However, the audience’s opinion will only be weighted in this show – they will be the sitters, non-professional judges who will try the case of the accused Lars Koch.”

The creative team of the show: director Valters Sīlis, scenographer and costume designer Uģis Bērziņš, lighting designer Krista Erdmanes.

Cast: Kaspars Aniņš, Ivars Kļavinskis, Daiga Kažociņa, Voldemārs Šoriņš, Sanita Paula, Egils Melbārdis, Ilva Lorence, Elīza Sīpola, Žanete Zvīgule, Klara Elizabete Upeniece, Alice Kalvāne.
