No one has done that yet: US singer Billie Eilish (18) is the big winner of the 62nd Grammy Awards on Sunday evening in Los Angeles. Her song “Bad Guy” wins in the categories “Recording of the Year” and “Song of the Year”. And her record “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” Is declared “Album of the Year” and “Best Pop Singing Album”. First songs as an eleven year old
But who is the new pop sensation that caused hundreds of young people to scream when they visited the Swiss Music Awards in Lucerne last February?
–
Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O’Connell, as the real name of the artist is known, noticed early on with her talent for singing. At eight, she joined the local church choir. And at eleven she started to write her own songs – always supported by her brother. In November 2015, the two Billies released their first song “Ocean Eyes” on the Soundcloud platform. The track turned out to be a surprise hit and was shared countless times in no time – Eilish became a star overnight.

XL dresses, Tourette syndrome and suicidal thoughts
The unmistakable style is also part of the recipe for success of the young American, who says she does not like to laugh: she consequently appears in XL dresses so as not to be reduced to her body. She sings about taboo subjects such as her Tourette disease, depression and suicidal thoughts and thus hits the nerve of her generation. Eilish’s music videos are dark and morbid, black tears run from her eyes, spiders crawl around, and yet her lyrics are full of self-confidence.

No doubt: 2020 will go down in music history as Billie Eilish’s record year. After the Grammy triumph, she will also contribute the song to the 007 flick “No time to die” this April, making her the youngest musician ever to interpret a James Bond song.
