Observers assess the opportunity for the Gerindra Party Chairman’s duet Prabowo Subianto and Chairman of the DPP PDIP Mrs. Maharani in the 2024 presidential election is still wide open. However, this pair is considered difficult to reach the top position.
“It is possible that the Prabowo-Puan scenario will happen, because in politics everything is possible,” said Ujang Komarudin, a political observer from Al Azhar University. CNNIndonesia.com, Wednesday (3/11).
Previously, a line of volunteers appeared who declared themselves to support Prabowo-Puan as a presidential candidate (capres) and a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) in the 2024 presidential election.
If this scenario materializes, he said, Prabowo will occupy the position of presidential candidate and Puan will have to be content with being a vice presidential candidate.
“Because Mrs. electability is still low, and Prabowo is also at a loss [jika jadi cawapres]. In the 2019 presidential election, which was a presidential candidate, in the 2024 presidential election, he became a vice presidential candidate,” he said.
However, he assesses that the chances for the two pairs to win in the upcoming presidential election are very difficult. In fact, according to him, this axis may actually experience defeat.
The reason is that many of Prabowo’s supporters have changed direction because they feel disappointed. Meanwhile, from Puan’s perspective, her electability is still too low to support the vote.
“People are disappointed because Prabowo is close to the government. Many of his supporters including HRS (Habib Rizieq Shihab) are in prison, but Prabowo can’t do anything. Meanwhile, Puan’s electability is low,” he said.
With the potential for victory that is not so strong, Ujang assesses that there will be no political party that supports the two apart from the PDIP and the Gerindra Party alone.
“The other parties will join if the potential for Prabowo-Puan to win is high. If they have the potential to lose, the other parties will build their own coalition,” he concluded.
