The PP asks the City Council of València to reinforce the telephone service for the elderly that was launched at the start of the state of alarm. Councilor Marta Torrado denounces that the older’s phone does not work in the afternoon and “gives many problems to people who try to use it”, which they have to call several times“because the line is busy”.
The party demands that the mayor’s phone answer for the whole day and throughout the year to calls as older and vulnerable people need to be informed directly about their health concerns and how to act in the de-escalation.
But the Department of Active Aging accuses the popular of lying and affirm that the major’s phone does work until six p.m. Councilor Pilar Bernabé explained that due to the demands of the PP, two municipal officials work in the afternoon in the offices to answer a phone that, in the afternoon, only get two calls up to date.
“Pioneer in Spain”
Bernabé recalls that the Valencia City Council has been “one of the first in all of Spain” to start up a telephone service for the elderly and highlights that it is working well. Thanks in part to this service, he argues, the council feeds 650 elderly a day, provides home help to another 400 and has delivered since the start of the pandemic. more than 2,500 shopping baskets of Red Cross.
The Town Hall’s telephone for the elderly is 900 525 798 and its hours are from nine in the morning to six in the afternoon.
