“Buratino” is a heavy flamethrower system described as “hell on earth”. TOS-1 fires missiles that have specialized warheads – they pour a flammable liquid around a certain target and ignite it. It is possible to destroy several districts of the city in one attack.
The thermobaric effect of the rocket is very effective because, for example, it makes no sense for people to hide in trenches or bunkers. Why? Because the rocket burns the air and creates a high temperature, resulting in a powerful shock wave.
High-accuracy firing angle calculation for unguided missiles distributes the targets to the area so that it is possible to cover the target densely within six seconds. This makes it possible to suppress the enemy’s active activity in large areas for a long time and destroy the enemy’s combat forces in an area of 40,000 square meters.
The system was developed in the 1970s. It is mounted on the basis of the T-72 tank and was first used on the battlefield in the Soviet-Afghan war. TOS-1 is intended for the elimination of armored vehicles, the destruction and setting fire to buildings, as well as the weakening of the enemy’s forces.
In 2015, “Buratino” was also spotted in eastern Ukraine, in the territory controlled by Kremlin-backed separatists.
