Especially for smokers, doctors have already explained the dangers of smoking in the midst of this pandemic. According to doctors, active smokers have a greater potential to be exposed to Covid-19.

The Indonesian Lung Doctors Association (PDPI) stated that the potential for smokers to contract Covid-19 is two to three times higher than non-smokers. This is caused by the number of ACE 2 receptors or the seat of Sars Cov-II in the respiratory tract of smokers.
In addition, said PDPI Chairman Agus Dwi Susanto, cigarette smoke can reduce body immunity. In fact, the role of this immunity is very important in preventing viral and bacterial infections.
“The ingredients in cigarette smoke are proven to interfere with the migration process of various immune cells while fighting infection. When a smoker experiences an infection, the migration of his immunity cells will decrease, ”he explained in a written statement from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).

Agus also revealed about the big threat to people who have comorbid diseases. People who have comorbid diseases, such as heart disease, hypertension and diabetes, have a greater potential to contract Covid-19.
Smoking can increase the potency of more comorbids. “These comorbid diseases are more common in smokers. As a result, when smokers have comorbidities, they pose a risk of contracting Covid-19, “he said. []
