The postmen of Chartres, Courville-sur-Eure and Gellainville continue the strike to be heard

This morning, around forty postmen expressed their dissatisfaction with the La Poste de Gellainville group platform. The strikers from the post offices of Chartres and Courville-sur-Eure joined those of Gellainville at 10 a.m. to make their demands heard. They denounce the abolition of rest days, the increase in tours in a situation of understaffing and a lack of permanent contracts offered to employees.

“This impacts their health and the quality of service”

“Certain postmen, present today, have lost up to five days of rest per year”, supports Jean-François Paty, departmental secretary of the CGT PTT 28. He adds: “The workload is more and more important while the letter carriers are understaffed. This inevitably impacts their health and the quality of service.”

The postmen mobilized say they are “tired, even on the verge of burnout. The abolition of rest days is not justified. Moreover, the postmen are not even replaced during their days off. They have to catch up during the day of rest”, adds Jean-François Paty.

At the end of the consultation, the mobilized employees said they were ready to continue the strike to make themselves heard.

Jean Mickaël Lénard, operational director of mail-parcel services for Eure-et-Loir, explains: “The activity of the mail service has decreased by 17% in Gellainville, in one year. Traffic drops considerably in summer and the number rest days is proportional to the working time. He claims that in summer the activity of the service can decrease by 40 to 60%. “Regarding permanent contracts, we have recruited seven since the start of the year,” he adds.

The director specifies that “employee health and customer satisfaction are the most important indicators”. “The customer satisfaction index has never been so high this year since it reached 97.6% for the mail-parcel service and 99.8% for the other services”, continues the manager.

The strike will continue

The meeting between the two parties, this Wednesday, having resulted in no agreement, the postmen will resume the strike on Thursday morning. A new meeting will be organized between the CGT PTT 28 and the management of the Gellainville site.
