The Porsche 718 GT4 RS is terribly fast – but can only be obtained with two pedals

The new little worst with 500 hp turns the ring in 7:04. However, the optional list lacks an important alternative – unlike the regular 718 GT4, the RS model is not available with a manual gearbox.

Porsche is good at to come up with new recipes with proven ingredients. Now, the brand’s GT department has managed to shoehorn the 4-liter boxer six from 911 GT3 in the smaller 718. The result is spelled Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS (puh).

With 500 horsepower (10 fewer than in the 911 GT3) at 9,000 rpm and 430 Newton meters, the 1,415 kilo (1,490 with full tank) heavy 718 GT4 RS flies away at 100 km / h in 3.4 seconds.

The power loss compared to the 911 GT3 is blamed on the longer exhaust system.

That figure is reached with the same 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (PDK) as standard 718 GT4s. Unlike it, the RS model is not also available with a manual gearbox. The reason is of course that the PDK box shifts faster and cuts at least a tenth of the lap times at Hockenheim.

The air intake on the sides is recognizable from the Porsche 911 GT3.

In addition to the driveline, the chassis has of course been optimized even more for bank driving than regular GT4s. In addition to harder springs and new (faster) adaptive Bilstein dampers, Porsche has got rid of all rubber bushings in favor of dumb ball joints.

It lets the car rev Nürburgring’s legendary north loop at an impressive 7: 04.5, a time that was certainly set with the super-sticky (and by all accounts barely road-legal) Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires available as an option.

Of course, there is also a juicy Weissach package which, in addition to the exhaust system and a titanium bow, includes a whole bunch of carbon fiber parts (including the front door, rear wing and air intakes). Those who have checked it out can also opt for 20-inch forged magnesium rims instead of the standard car’s aluminum diton.

For those who are looking for a pure racing car, an even more extreme Clubsport version (closest in the picture) will also be shown at the Los Angeles car show on November 19-28.

As expected the price for the party is huge. Even without a single option folded (which is difficult when shopping for a Porsche), the new Porsche 718 GT4 RS lands at SEK 1,480,000. Porsche plans to begin deliveries of its worst-718 in June 2022.

What do you think, is it something to have – despite the lack of a manual gearbox?

Gasa: It’s clear – the PDK box is cruel! Brake: No – manual is a must!
