Porsche has been refining its 718 Cayman GT4 RS for several months. The model’s world premiere will take place in November, but it has already been admired during the quick sprint on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Jorg Bergmeister himself was behind the wheel of the slightly camouflaged prototype.
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS is as agile as a go-kart and impressively stable
The camouflaged prototype of the Porsche GT4 RS, equipped with a racing seat, was racing to the record on the tires Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R. Porsche says Jorg Bergmeister completed the 20.832 km section of the Nürburgring track in 7:09:300.
It took 7: 04.511, which is 23.6 seconds faster than the 718 Cayman GT4, to cover the shorter 20.6 km lap that was until recently the benchmark.
As a reminder, the hypercar 918 needed 6:57.00 for this, and the Lamborghini Aventador SV unofficially covered this distance at 6.59.73. As reported FastestLaps, Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro, McLaren 720S and Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition did so on 7.04.63, 7.08.00 and 7.14.64 respectively.
Jorg Bergmeister spent 500 hours testing and tuning the model, here’s what he said about it:
The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is an uncompromising drivetrain. It feels as agile as a mountain road go-kart, but at the same time impressively stable and well-balanced when driving on a racetrack. The GT4 RS is one of the sharpest cars Porsche has ever developed.
Finally, the right gears and the right sound
The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS will sit at the top of the 718 Cayman family in just one month. It will get a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine, which it will share with the non-letter model RS and the 718 Boxster Spyder.
The figures have not been disclosed yet, but is expected to generate 500hp. This means it will gain a significant advantage over the 718 Cayman GT4.
