The general said that the Kaliningrad region is a territory “under Russian occupation since 1945.” He emphasized that this territory had never been Russian, but historically belonged to Prussia and Poland.
“Now you should claim your rights to it as it was with the returned lands (the former eastern territories of Germany, transferred to Poland at the end of the Second World War. – “GORDON”). Perhaps it is worth claiming the Kaliningrad region, which, in my opinion, is part of the territory of Poland. We have the right to have claims to the territory occupied by Russia,” Skshipchak said.
The general added that this territory has no military significance.

Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev in a commentary to the Russian state agency RIA Novosti on this occasion, he said that the general “needs to know better the history of the Second World War and his own country.” In his opinion, Skshipchak “either did not even study at school in principle, or totally skipped all history lessons.” Kosachev also stated that “there are more and more such illiterate truants, who do not remember their kinship and have no conscience, in the West.” RIA Novosti did not publish comments on the merits of the issue.
The modern Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation is located on part of the territory of the former German province of East Prussia. After the Second World War, by decision of the Potsdam Conference, most of East Prussia became part of Poland, a third of the territory with the capital Koenigsberg passed to the USSR.
