The police with warning shots after a threatening situation in Oslo

The police received a report at 00.31 about a threatening situation at a private address in Toftes gate in Grunerløkka.

Published:

– A family member had come home and threatened with a gun. The police rushed to the address and got the address isolated and established a dialogue with the person concerned, says operations manager Eirik Sannes.

Those involved must be close family members.

He says they eventually got all the family members out except for one member who was held back. After some time, the last family member was also released, according to the police.

The police were directly pointed at with a gun several times while they isolated the address, according to themselves. It was in this connection that a warning shot was fired, explains Sannes.

– The police isolated the apartment in the block of flats from several positions. Here, the police who were working in the backyard were pointed at from a corridor or smaller balcony, where the person in question was in and out a lot.

After approximately 45 minutes, the suspect threw the weapon away and was taken into custody by the police. This happened some time after the police had fired warning shots.

– Then we shoot to warn, in the direction of the suspect, but without endangering anyone, says Sannes.

He explains that the police and health/psychiatry were constantly in dialogue with the man over the phone and directly on the spot.

It has not been reported that anyone has been injured and the suspect is being followed up by health/psychiatry.
