Views and magazines to know by heart, and still surreal twenty years later

The terrorist attack that destroyed the Twin Towers in New York on 11 September 2001 was one of the last major contemporary events not to be told, at least in part, through social networks. Even the online coverage of the attack was marginal: it was instead the live television coverage and the photos published in the newspapers that testified to the surreal and apocalyptic dimension of that morning in Manhattan. The photos of the towers in smoke, of the people who threw themselves into the void, of those upset in the street, of the skyline of the city and of the firefighters engaged in the rescue are now fixed in the collective memory of those who remember it well that day – “where were you when did the Twin Towers collapse? ” – and also of those who were too young to understand what was happening, but saw them in history books and newspapers on anniversary days. But they belong to that category of photos that despite their familiarity do not exhaust what they have to say, even twenty years later.
