The Pentagon has terminated a $ 10 billion Amazon deal with Microsoft

The Pentagon’s $ 10 billion JEDI (Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure) contract was canceled by itself US Department of Defense. This was revealed by CNBC.

The contract was intended for modernizing the Pentagon’s IT operations. According to the agency, “due to changing requirements, growing availability of cloud computing and industry advances, the JEDI Cloud contract no longer meets its needs.”

Cloud infrastructure refers to the servers, storage, computing, and security that host virtualized data.

Thus, the Pentagon announced a new contract for many suppliers, known as the “Joint capability for cloud military fighters.” The ministry said it plans to search suggestions for contracts from both Amazon and Microsoft, adding that they are the only cloud providers that can meet their needs.

Shares of Microsoft fell slightly amid the news, while shares of Amazon remained largely unchanged, the publication notes.

Earlier, Microsoft Vice President of Security and Consumer Confidence Tom Burt said that in the last few years, federal law enforcement agencies have sent annually from 2400 to 3500 secret requests to provide sensitive user data.
