The Pearl Cullinan: A Custom Rolls-Royce Gift with a Unique Nineties Design

The special Rolls-Royce “The Pearl Cullinan” is a nineties gift that has been almost two years in the making. The exterior paint, which has gone through many tests to withstand the Arabian sun while still looking exceptional, is only one piece of the puzzle.

It is perfectly normal for car companies like Rolls-Royce to build cars exactly to the customer’s specifications. Even among the cars created in this way, however, the piece called The Pearl Cullinan is unique – the paint shop needed 30 attempts to get the final shade exactly right.

Work on the “pearl cullinan” began in early 2022 at the instigation of a dedicated Rolls-Royce customer from the United Arab Emirates who wanted to give his father a special present for his nineties. So the management of the brand met with the father to get to know his life and his hobbies – and on this basis a special car was created.

The pearly pink exterior color that was so challenging to complete is just one element of several. Nevertheless, the carmaker took a really thorough look at it, in addition to tests in simulated daylight, it was also subjected to tests under the real harsh sun of the Middle East and tested its durability to see if it could withstand the heat and a lot of UV radiation.

It’s complemented by a hand-painted rose gold line on the body as well as a rose gold plated Spirit of Ecstasy statuette on the hood. The same motif continues on the sill trims, visible when the doors are opened.

The interior will offer cashmere gray leather on the front seats and Ardent red on the back, inspired by the material on which the pearls are presented. Also, the design of the walnut wood interior paneling is reminiscent of pearl boxes. The customer’s family is closely connected with them.

The mother-of-pearl is woven into the wooden paneling, but also in other places of the interior, in various – and quite complex – ornaments. Examples are the folding tables for the rear passengers, which are covered almost entirely in mother-of-pearl, and also the clock on the dashboard is lined with the same material. Finally, the gold thread embroidered RR emblems in the headrests are also worth mentioning.
