It was a resounding thunderclap that took place yesterday on French football. Indeed, Maxime Saada, president of the management board of Canal +, announced that the encrypted channel had decided to return its two matches (that of Saturday at 9 p.m. and that of Sunday at 5 p.m.) and wanted a new call for tenders. But he also declared that he was in favor of a so-called pay-per-view solution, namely the unit match and which is a very widespread system in the United States. But what is this solution more precisely? Saada said a little more.

The single match

As explained RMC Sport, the Chairman of the Management Board wishes to set up this pay-per-view solution on a provisional basis. “To put an end to this situation, we are going to offer the LFP a universal technical solution which will allow all French people, whether subscribers to Canal + or not, to follow the matches in pay-per-view” said Saada, assuring that this would be a provisional solution for matches from the 24th day, given that Médiapro must no longer broadcast after January 31 and that Canal has therefore returned its two posters. This pay-per-view system can however be dangerous because it consists of paying for the match individually and this could benefit the big cars, much more followed than the small teams. A club president is also worried in Le Parisien. And for Maxime Saada, the pay-per-view solution would be to “help” the clubs because he wants to donate most of the revenue to the clubs and the LFP. It will therefore be necessary to follow this idea of ​​pay-per-view but not sure that this is the most adequate solution if it were to be adopted.
