Photo: Gabi Nätscher She is fit and agile even in old age, exudes joie de vivre. The Lohr housewives and their collections for Welthungerhilfe are of particular concern to her. We’re talking about Renate Stürmer, who celebrated her 80th birthday in Sackenbach. Renate Geis was born on May 15, 1940 in a small town near Paderborn. The family moved to the Grandparents in Mittelreu in the Rhön. Renate attended middle school, did an “office apprenticeship”, as she says. In the company she met her future husband Josef Stürmer. They married in March 1961 and the couple moved to Rexroth for their job in Lohr. The first son Michael was born nine months after the marriage. “From then on, I always stayed at home for my family and didn’t regret it,” says the jubilee. In 1965 the couple had their second son Martin. The home was built in Sackenbach am Frührain in 1971. She is very interested in painting, but languages and travel all over the world are and were a great passion. She shared her husband’s great hobby, archeology, throughout her life: “We were involved in excavations and did a lot of study trips.” The walls of her house are adorned with numerous, beautiful pictures, made by Renate Stürmer in many different painting techniques. She continues to help with the collections of the “Lohr housewives” who have already donated a lot of money for well structures in Senegal to Welthungerhilfe (WHH). In 1986 she came across it by chance: “Actually, I should only draw fountains.” For almost 30 years, the jubilee has been helping children in the primary school with their homework through the Lohrer Arbeiterwohlfahrt in the primary school. Today she mainly looks after her husband. “He is now 89 and no longer able to walk,” says Renate Stürmer. Her sons gave her four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
