The Foreign Ministry held difficult negotiations with Sweden to bring the original relic to the country by the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.
The original Latin version of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlik of 1710 will reach Ukraine for the first time in three centuries. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba announced this on Friday, May 21, on the page in Facebook.
“For the first time in 311 years, the original of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlyk will enter the Ukrainian state. We are returning Ukraine to Ukraine. The presence of the original Constitution already in an independent state is another step in restoring our historical continuity from the times of Rus, the Cossack state, the Ukrainian People’s Republic to the present day.” , – noted the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Kuleba said that on behalf of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Foreign Ministry turned to Sweden with a request to provide for temporary use the original Latin version of the Constitution of Pylyp Orlik of 1710 for its temporary display in Ukraine as part of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence.
“These were very difficult negotiations, we were offered a copy, but we only wanted the original, which had never been in Ukraine. And therefore, I am especially grateful to Sweden for showing real solidarity with Ukraine and mutual readiness to further develop millennial ties between our peoples,” – noted Kuleba.
The Foreign Minister thanked his Swedish colleagues and the National Archives of Sweden and its leadership for the opportunity to present to the Ukrainians an extremely important relic for the history of the state.
Kuleba said that the Linkoping City Library in Sweden also agreed to provide a hetman mace for temporary display, which, according to legend, after hetman Ivan Mazepa belonged to Pylyp Orlik.
Recall, the day before Zelensky announced a three-day celebration of Independence Day Of Ukraine, within the framework of which the Constitution of Pylyp Orlik will be brought to the country.

The Constitution of Pylyp Orlik is a constitutional agreement between the hetman of the Zaporozhye Army Philip Orlik and the foreman and the Cossacks, which determined the rights and obligations of all members of the Army.
