His video revealed the images of Nahel’s death to the general public. On June 27, in Nanterre, a woman published on social networks the images of the roadside check during which the 17-year-old young man was killed by a police officer after refusing to comply. The video quickly went viral. For the first time since Nahel’s death and the riots that followed, the one who wishes to remain anonymous testified on BFM TV.

That Tuesday, the 27-year-old woman was at her workplace when one of her colleagues told her about the scene she had just witnessed and which she filmed. “When I see the video, I find it very shocking and serious”, explains the one that BFM TV nicknames Olivia. Quickly comes the question of whether or not to broadcast these images on social networks.

“I just think I did my duty”

While the official police version reports Nahel’s refusal to comply endangering the policeman, who finally shot him to protect himself, the young woman discovers that this version does not correspond to the images. So she decides to post the video on her Twitter account. “I just think I did my duty. I couldn’t act like nothing happened. To date, the video has garnered over 3 million views.

Asked about the five nights of riots that affected all of France after the publication of the video, she confided “hearing the anger of the French.
