The old Bastia hospital will soon be replaced by an eco-district

Toga, in its lower part, will experience a new boom in the years to come. After the industrial era which launched a dynamic in this district at the end of the 19th century, in the future housing and shops will replace the old hospital structure.

These last years, Toga, in its lower part, is undoubtedly the district from Bastia who suffered the most modifications.

Roundabout, mini-tunnel, marina have replaced traces of the industrial era at the end of the 19th centurye century. The city hospital, before moving to Falconaja, was located in this area.

A space of more than two hectares, currently occupied by hospital services, but also by charities, which is of particular interest to the municipality of Bastia. So much so that Mayor Pierre Savelli, with his entire team, has the firm intention of becoming the owner of the premises in order to grow an eco-neighborhood in the near future.

“It’s about breathing new life into Toga. It’s a project that is very important to us. But before doing anything we have to become the owner of the whole. The buildings still belong to the hospital. . We have already started discussions with the management which we hope to see come to fruition quickly “, explained Pierre Savelli.

A sale that would be accelerated in the event of the launch of a new hospital to replace that of Falconaja. For the moment, the municipality has commissioned an assistant project manager for the feasibility study and the financial package. These two stages are being finalized for a final cost estimated in total at 40 million euros.

The whole area is already preempted by the Bastia town hall

392 housing units planned

Ultimately, once the buyback has been made in this new eco-district, the construction of nearly 400 housing units is planned. But Pierre Savelli warns, crazy urbanization is to be avoided. “All this must be completely coherent. There is no question, for example, of touching the Borghetti garden, located in the middle of the area. It will be sanctuary.” And add : “We want to develop an accessible and welcoming urban park while promoting first-time buyers for young households. As I said, all this must be done in total coherence. It is essential to avoid the errors of the Fangu with residential constructions. without global reflection and without the presence of services. “

For the mayor and his entire team, it is a question of creating a real neighborhood dynamic in this area which will be newly offered to urbanization.. “We want to bring the public service back to Toga. It will be a question of installing facilities that serve all citizens and inhabitants of the future eco-district. I am thinking for example of a nursery, play parks but also completely rethinking the ‘Charpak school. “

Discussions are currently continuing within the municipal majority to have the most successful project possible. The bulk of the dossier will also focus on mobility. There is no question, there too, for the municipality to deliver buildings without traffic lanes or parking areas..

Ample parking to contain the flow

“We need to develop a large parking lot for the northern entrance to the city. This would allow us to contain the flows coming from the North. Its installation could be done at the location of the old wastewater treatment plant for example. From there, public transport would take over just like the train tram. We would thus avoid having another 14 bus lines, for example. We work for this in total harmony with the services of the Bastia agglomeration community. have already held four steering committees on the subject. We are not forgetting the pedestrian route either. We intend, for example, to link the lower part of Toga with the upper part. ”

After the industrial revolution Toga will therefore experience the digital and ecological revolution with this new eco-district. A beautiful entry into the XXIe century.
