The jury of the second collection of poems by Zegner recognized as the best 13 works in competition.

The publishing house “Neputns” presented the largest number of candidates, which nominated six collections of poems, including the second collection of poems “Jaunība” by last year’s winner Ivars Šteinbergas. A year ago, Steinberg was awarded the German Prize for his first collection of poems “The Hive”.

The poets Inta Kampara, Zane Daugule, Elīna Bākule-Veire, Marija Luīze Meļķe, Henriks Elias Zēgner, Rolands Briedis, Rūta Mežavilka, Artis Ostup, Madara Gruntmane, Inga Pizāne, Māra Zālīte, Andra Manfelde and the aforementioned Steinberg were nominated with their latest poetry collections. .

The collection of poems was evaluated by a competition commission composed of five members: Ādažu County Council member and committee chairman Daiga Mieriņa (LZS), poet and translator, 2009 O. Vācieša prize winner Edvīns Raups, director of the O. Vācieša Ieva Ķise museum, Carnikava elementary teacher Ilze Vāciete and poetess Daina Sirmā, winner of the 2018 O. Väcieša prize.

The organizer of the annual competition of the Ojāras Vācieš Literary Prize is the municipality of Ādažu district, which is carrying on the succession of the tradition previously maintained by the municipality of Carnikava.

The German prize was first awarded in 1984, the winners of which were poets Jānis Peters, Vytauts Lūdēns and Ivans Dračs, in 1988 the prize was awarded to Vizma Belševica, Zālīte, Jānis Baltvilks and Juris Kronbergs, and in 1993 – Imants Ziedonis, Māra Mellēna, Ernests Spičs, Valdis Muktupāvels and Guntars Godiņš. In 2003, the Ādažu county council together with the Carnikava parish council renewed the O. Vācieš award, but from 2011 to 2020, the award was conferred by the Carnikava county council.
