The number of attacks on journalists during the protests is increasing / Day

Between January and June, UNESCO registered 21 protests, during which journalists were attacked, detained or killed.

UNESCO, which monitors the media environment, says in its report that the increase in attacks on journalists reflects a general trend over the past five years of increasing arbitrary use of force by police and other security services.

Between 2015 and mid-2020, ten journalists were killed during the protests, but a total of 125 cases of journalists were attacked or detained.

These data reflect the situation in the 65 countries monitored by UNESCO.

Cases of journalists dying in the course of their protests have been reported in Syria, Mexico, Israel, Nicaragua, Northern Ireland, Nigeria and Iraq.
