The NIE refers to Justice the research findings on warehouse in Ponce

The governor Wanda Vázquez Garced reported today, Monday, that the Bureau of Special Investigations (NIE) referred to the Public Integrity Division of Justice Department the research findings related to the management of the contents of a warehouse in Ponce managed by the Negotiated for Emergency Management and Disaster Management (Nmead)

Vázquez Garced ordered the agency to carry out an investigation that should be completed within 48 hours, and the report was delivered today, Monday.

“I have been informed by the NIE Commissioner, Héctor López, that, as part of the ordinary procedures in this type of research, and According to the findings that suggest inactions or omissions in the management of the warehouse and supplies by some officials, we welcome the recommendation of the Bureau to refer the preliminary conclusions to the Department of Justice so that a thorough investigation can continue with priority and the corresponding actions are taken by law, ”said Vázquez Garced.

Although Vázquez Garced received the report, no mention was made in the statement of the findings of the investigation or which persons or agencies will be referred to Justice.

The discovery of the warehouse in Ponce, and another similar facility in Guaynabo, full of emergency supplies dating shortly after Hurricane Maria, caused another wave of repudiation among Puerto Ricans.

The then secretary of the Nmead, Carlos Acevedo, was fired due to the mess with the stores, and Vázquez Garced then dismissed the head of the Department of Family and Housing, Glorimar Andújar and Fernando Gil Enseñat, respectively.

In the same way, the scandal caused a new wave of protests against the management of Vázquez Garced and what they perceive has been the mishandling of the emergency caused by earthquakes, especially in the southern part of the island.
