Samsung is about to launch a refreshed model of one of its ultra-premium phrare gaming monitors, the Samsung Odyssey G9.
Samsung Odyssey G9 avec support VESA DisplayHDR 2000
A new listing has appeared on the Chinese site Taobao, presenting a still unpublished Samsung Odyssey G9 monitor. Last month, Samsung announced that its flagship model G9 will receive a technical update. The manufacturer did not go into details, but confirmed that the updated miss panel will be equipped with Quantum MiniLED technology. Thanks to the Taobao leak, we learn, among other things, a few more details.
First of all, the size, resolution and curvature of the panel have not changed. The Odyssey G9 still has a 49 inch VA panel with a 5120 × 1440 resolution (double QHD) and a 1000R curvature. It’s a truly immersive experience that replaces a multi-monitor setup with a single panel.
The new slab has a 240Hz maximum refresh rate and supports technologies NVIDIA G-Sync et AMD FreeSync Pro, says the Taobao shopping site. These characteristics along with the 10-bit color depth, 95% of DCI-P3 color coverage, have not changed since the 2020 model.
What has changed is the backlight technology. The updated Odyssey G9 has a MiniLED backlight with 2048 local dimming zones. This technology has made it possible to increase the contrast ratio at 4000: 1 and especially the peak brightness at 2000 nits (cd / cm2). The seller claims that the monitor has the certification VESA DisplayHDR 2000, however, no such certification exists yet. It is therefore likely that the Samsung Odyssey G9 2021 will be the first to have this certification.

Currently, the highest level of DisplayHDR specifications indicates a peak luminance of 1400 (cd / m2). Compared to the 2020 Odyssey G9, peak brightness has doubled.
The 2021 Samsung Odyssey G9 is currently listed on Taobao for 29,999 RMB, or approximately 4,599 USD (3,863 €). Of course, this price is only indicative until the seller receives more information from Samsung. According to the listing, delivery of this model is now expected around June, which would be exactly one year after the release of the 2020 model.
