The automotive market surprises us every day. Manufacturers come up with new projects to attract new customers. And we’ve never even heard of many of them. For example, Toyota – the Japanese manufacturer sells the Probox. This is a new van that is as simple as possible.
This Toyota is naked and … happy
Toyota Probox is a car without unnecessary additives and technology. The car first appeared in Japan in 2002, and an updated version appeared 12 years later. The car is aimed at light commercial vehicle customers, not the general public. This becomes clear when we look inside.
The van has a very simple cabin. The instrument cluster resembles a huge speedometer with a small digital display underneath. The dashboard is even more basic. There is a phone holder next to the driver, but no multimedia system.
Even the radio is not standard. In Japan it’s quite popular to sell cars at a completely low extras level. Thanks to this, customers can choose only what they really need. Airflow control is very simple – there are two round panels to change the temperature and fan settings.
The engine is not overly powerful
Currently, the Toyota Probox is available with a four-cylinder 1.3-liter engine producing 94 hp. We can also choose 1.5-liter gasoline with 107 HP or a 1.5-liter hybrid. All models use a CVT transmission. We also have a choice of front or two-axle drive.
Toyota has just announced the next version of Probox. The new version of the GX will debut in Japan on January 6, 2022. It will be equipped with amenities such as electric windshields, electric folding mirrors and a 100W power socket.
Given its simplicity, the low price should come as no surprise. Prices range from 1.5 million yen (PLN 53,000) to 2 million yen (PLN 70,000).
