The new Riga City Council will not start work so soon – there will be litigation about the election results – in Latvia – News

It has already been reported that the Central Election Commission (CEC) rejected the “New Accord” request to annul both the decision of the Riga City Electoral Commission to approve the results of the extraordinary elections of the Capital City Council and the results of the 97th and 144th polls.

Jānis Kuzins, a representative of “New Accord”, said after announcing this decision that he had decided to file a lawsuit. In addition, if the court rejects it, he will go to the European Court of Human Rights.

CVK chairman Kristīne Bērziņa said that

if someone decides to challenge CVK’s decisions in court, the newly elected council will not be able to start work until the relevant court decision.

CVK’s decisions can be challenged within three working days by submitting an application to the Regional Administrative Court. The district court must make a decision within seven days of receiving the application – it will be final and uncontested.

As reported, a total of 627 ballot envelopes without the polling station seal were found in the ballot boxes in the above-mentioned polling stations, which are considered invalid in accordance with the Electoral Law and the CEC Instruction and are not included in the overall election result.

In addition, some people were not given the opportunity to vote at home because of them did not come representatives of the election commission.

In total, the CEC has received applications from representatives of four lists of candidates – the New Agreements, the Party of Harmony, the Latvian Russian Union and the Alternative Party regarding the contestation of the election results.
