The new Mercedes C-Class arrives inspired by the top S-Class

It arrives as a sedan, internally and among fans of the brand marked W206, and straight as the S206 station wagon. From the outside, it clearly resembles the new class S gen. W223, which was introduced at the end of last summer. The most distinctive design elements include pointed front and rear lights, which are of course LED.

In the interior is the inspiration of the S-Class to know even more, especially in displays. In addition to the 10.25-inch instrument panel or the 12.3-inch surcharge, there is a central display for the driver to work with the second-generation MBUX infotainment system. It looks bigger, but it’s not – it basically measures 9.5 inches, for an additional fee it is possible to have an 11.9-inch display.

Of course, there is voice control using the “Hey Mercedes” command, which is one of the best on the market for previous versions of the MBUX infotainment. The system is connected to the Internet, it also updates itself over the Internet, and it is even possible to connect it to a smart home, so the car can tell you if anyone is at home.

The interior is dominated by two displays.

Navigation can be improved for an additional fee by the so-called augmented reality. It displays the camera output on the display and shows, for example, which lane to choose or which street to turn to. Another optional system, called Digital Light, can project guide lines or warning symbols in addition to the LED Matrix function on the road ahead. It works with 1.3 million microscopic mirrors in each headlight.

Of the other equipment, it is worth mentioning the massage front seat with pre-selected programs, for example, to increase the driver’s concentration. Plug-in hybrids also offer a special massage for an effective nap when you stop at the charger. The rear seats of both body variants can also be heated, and the station wagon has an electrically operated fifth door as standard.

The seats can also have a massage function.

Today, it goes without saying army of riding assistants of course it is also present. Adaptive cruise control is clear, as is active lane guidance, operating up to 210 km / h. It is interesting that with the assistance of 360 ° cameras he has to manage to create a rescue alley on the highway at lower speeds.

The traffic sign recognition system can, in addition to the usual traffic signs, standing on the right side of the road, also read the signs at the gates above the road and inform the driver of the red traffic light. According to the press release, he also understands the additional tables; We can only hope that not only in Germany, as is common in some other carmakers.

Under the hood are exclusively four-cylinder, mounted longitudinally and driving primarily the rear wheels.

Mercedes informs immediately about the plug-in hybrid variant, which will not be available from the start, and the exact technical data are not yet known. According to the WLTP standard, however, the car should be able to run about 100 km on electricity before it will be necessary to either recharge the 25.4 kWh battery or start the internal combustion engine.

It will also be possible to use a fast charging station for charging, the car can handle 55 kW with direct current if you pay extra for it. The standard is an 11kW on-board AC charger.

The electric motor will offer 95 kW (129 hp) / 440 Nm and, according to the carmaker, should suffice for most driving situations up to a speed of 140 km / h. The plug-in hybrid is to be available with both petrol and diesel engines.

Compared to its predecessor, it is 65 mm longer, 10 mm wider and also slightly lower. Passengers in particular benefit from the increased dimensions – there is more space in the interior in all directions, including legroom at the rear. The sedan remains luggage volume at 455 liters, the station wagon at the rear increased by 30 liters to 490, respectively. 1510 with folded seats.
