Mercedes is preparing for the arrival of a new generation of the famous SL roadster. It is being developed by AMG, which has undergone many changes. For example, for the first time since 1989, the SL will have a 2 + 2 configuration.

In recent months, Mercedes-Benz has mainly expanded its EQ electric range, but for the following months it also has one novelty for orthodox driving enthusiasts. It is preparing the premiere of the new generation of the SL roadster, about which gradually reveals more information. This time there were photos of the interior.
“The new SL combines the highest levels of comfort and quality in its interior, together with the right amount of sportiness,” says Philipp Schiemer, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-AMG, who is in charge of developing the new SL generation. The interior of the novelty aims to combine the fashionable digital world with traditional analog details.
The central motif of the car is therefore a pair of digital screens that take over the concept from the new generation S-Class. This means that the 12.3 “instrument panel complements the vertically oriented touch screen of the MBUX multimedia system, with a diagonal of 11.9”. At the same time, the carmaker adapted them for use in a car that allows driving with the roof open. To prevent their image from being dazzled by the sun, the alarm clocks are located in a special shield, while the infotainment screen can be electrically tilted to another position.
Of the traditional elements, Mercedes emphasizes the motif of the NACA hole shown on the center console, which is also a reference to the Mercedes-AMG GT. There are also four round ventilation holes resembling turbines. The most selected materials should be a matter of course.
The manufacturer has also officially confirmed that the new SL will receive a 2 + 2 configuration with emergency rear seats. However, these will be intended primarily as additional storage space, for example for a golf bag, as Mercedes adds that people with a maximum height of 1.5 meters can fit here. In any case, it will be the first time since 1989 (and the R129 generation) that SL will offer a 2 + 2 interior. It’s also because he has in the future at the same time replace the S convertible.
The new generation of the Mercedes SL is to be introduced this year. It is being developed for the first time by the AMG division, which is why its official name is Mercedes-AMG SL. The basis will be a completely new aluminum construction s canvas retractable roof, which is to be better adapted to the character of the roadster, will also allow the installation of new modern technology. In this context, there is talk of the advent of all-wheel drive or plug-in hybrid drive.
